remote sensing is transforming macrosystems ecology
The Spectral Ecology Summer School (SPEC School) introduces participants to concepts in ecological remote sensing and inclusive leadership. The main foci are on using airborne remote sensing products from the National Ecological Observatory Network's Airborne Observation Platform (NEON AOP) and on building leadership skills for academia and beyond. The in-person component of the course emphasizes field data collection, group leadership activities, and research projects, while lectures are held online in the months leading up to the field week (see For Participants for schedule details).
SPEC School is aimed primarily at graduate students and early postdoctoral researchers interested in incorporating remote sensing tools into their ecological research. Prior experience with remote sensing is NOT required. Currently funded for three years starting in 2023, SPEC School can fully support 15-20 US-based participants per year (no citizenship restrictions, see Participate! for more details). We are open to international participation, however, international participants will need to fund travel into the US.
